Mr. LaTona has been practicing criminal defense since 1975 and is considered by many to
be the local expert on wiretaps and electronic surveillance. His resume of notable cases
includes some of Western New York's most highly publicized and most compelling cases
involving allegations of fraud, conspiracy, murder and criminally negligent homicide. Mr.
LaTona's practice has always included involvement in complex white collar and electronic
surveillance investigations and prosecutions. He primarily concentrates in criminal and
administrative law representing individuals and entities in disputes and litigation against
federal, state and local government.
Mr. LaTona began his career in Western New York with the acclaimed criminal defense
lawyer John Condon. They became partners in the firm of Condon, LaTona & Pieri, P.C.
Before establishing his own office in 2001, he was a partner with Lipsitz, Green, Fahringer,
Roll, Salisbury & Cambria, located in Buffalo, New York. He is a graduate of Rutgers College
(BA, 1971) and Creighton University Law School (JD, 1974).
Mr. LaTona is admitted to practice in numerous courts including: New York State (1975);
the United States District Court for the Western District of New York (1975), the Eastern
District of New York (1986), the Northern District of New York (2001); the Southern
District of New York (2003), the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
(1976), the Seventh Circuit (1985); the Federal Circuit (1986); the United States Supreme
Court (1979); the United States Tax Court (1983).
Additionally, he is a member of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA), the Erie
County Bar Association (ECBA), the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
(NACDL), the National Association of Distinguished Counsel (NADC), and the New York
State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NYSACDL). Throughout his career, he
lectured numerous times for the NYSBA and the ECBA.
Mr. LaTona has achieved Martindale-Hubbell's AV Pre Eminent Rating since 1980, been
listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1987, has appeared in Buffalo Business First’s
and the Buffalo Law Journal’s Who's Who in Law several times since 2008, and was named
in Buffalo Business First’s Legal Elite in 2014 and 2016. Additionally, he appears in the list
of Top 50 Super Lawyers – Upstate from 2008 to the present, and was the subject of a
feature article, “Defending the Indefensible,” in the September 2008 New York Super
Lawyers - Upstate Edition magazine.
